Welcome to our guide on dropshipping in Mexico!

If you're looking to start a dropshipping business in Mexico, you’ve probably encountered a major challenge: finding local suppliers.

When we started researching, we expected to find plenty of Mexican suppliers that support dropshipping.

But to our surprise, they’re not so easy to come by...

So, what now?

Can you still do dropshipping in Mexico without local suppliers?

And what about using suppliers from other countries, or even selling to other countries if you're based in Mexico?

In this guide, we’ll break it all down and help you find the best way to start dropshipping in Mexico.

6 Challenges of dropshipping in Mexico

Dropshipping in Mexico is not as simple as creating a Shopify store, finding a supplier, and waiting for sales to roll in.

There are some unique challenges you’ll face in such a developing market:

1. High taxes on products imported from outside Mexico

One of the biggest challenges of dropshipping in Mexico is the high import taxes.

If you’re sourcing products from suppliers in China, the US, or other countries, expect to pay significant import duties and VAT.

In many cases, these extra costs make your products much more expensive compared to what’s already available in the local market.

As of January 1, 2025, Mexico has also implemented new tariffs aimed at (cheap) products from Asia, which will face a 19% tariff:

New tariffs Mexico

These taxes can significantly affect your pricing strategy.

For instance, a product sourced from China with a declared value of $100 would cost $138.04 with import duty and VAT, and that's before considering shipping and other expenses.

There are some exceptions though.

For example, products from the United States or Canada have different rules due to trade agreements.

If the customs value of the goods does not exceed USD 50, they may be imported free of IGI and Value Added Tax (VAT). If the value is between USD 50 and USD 117, a flat rate of 17% is applied.

2. Limited local dropshipping suppliers

Finding a reliable dropshipping supplier based in Mexico is surprisingly difficult.

Unlike in the US or Europe, where there are many established dropshipping suppliers, Mexico has a lot fewer options.

For example, here's the empty Mexican warehouse page from CJdropshipping:

CJdropshipping mexico warehouse

Most local suppliers focus on bulk wholesale rather than dropshipping, and without a local supplier, many Mexican dropshippers have to rely on international options like AliExpress or suppliers in the US.

The downside?

Longer shipping times, higher costs, and potential customs issues (which we’ll talk about in a moment).

3. Slow and expensive international shipping

Unfortunately, international shipping to Mexico isn’t the fastest—or the cheapest.

If you’re using suppliers from China, standard shipping can take anywhere from 10 to 60 days, depending on the method you choose:

AliExpress shipping to Mexico

Faster shipping options like DHL or FedEx are available, but come with high costs that often discourage customers from buying.

4. Customs delays and unpredictable import regulations

Even if you find a supplier with decent shipping times, there’s another hurdle—Mexican customs.

Packages from international suppliers often get held up at customs, adding days or even weeks to delivery times.

On top of that, Mexico has strict import regulations for certain items like electronics, cosmetics, and supplements.

5. Competition with local marketplaces like Mercado Libre

If you’re dropshipping in Mexico, you’re competing with massive marketplaces like Mercado Libre, Amazon Mexico, and Liverpool.

Mercado Libre, in particular, dominates the ecommerce industry in Mexico:

Mercado Libre homepage

Mercado Libre offers fast delivery, easy returns, and trusted local sellers, so it's the go-to choice for millions of Mexican shoppers.

Customers of Mercado Libre also know that their purchase is protected and that they often get same-day or next-day shipping, so you'll have a though competitor there!

6. Issues with last-mile delivery

Even if your products arrive in Mexico quickly, the final delivery to the customer’s doorstep can be a challenge.

Last-mile delivery in Mexico can be unreliable, especially in rural areas or smaller towns where logistics networks are less developed.

Some common problems include:

  • Inconsistent tracking updates.
  • Delays due to inefficient local courier services.
  • Packages getting lost or stolen during delivery.

5 Dropshipping suppliers with the fastest shipping to Mexico

As mentioned earlier, there are almost no dropshipping suppliers that ship directly from Mexico.

However, you don't necessarily need them.

That's because you can also use suppliers from other countries that can ship to Mexico.

It’s not perfect, but with the right strategy, it can work.

So, we've compiled a list of 5 dropshipping suppliers with the fastest shipping times to Mexico!

Unfortunately, none of the products are from Mexican suppliers, but the great thing about Syncee is that it has a 'Ship from' and 'Ship to' filter.

Dropshipping with AliExpress is still a profitable business model in 2025, but you need the right knowledge to find the best sellers and get the fastest shipping times.

Another piece of good news is that the shipping times on AliExpress are not too slow nowadays.

For example, the shipping time to Mexico for this product is 8-15 days:

AliExpress delivery to Mexico

Alternative approach: ecommerce with a 3PL in Mexico

If you think dropshipping to Mexico comes with too many challenges, there’s another option that might work better: using a 3PL (third-party logistics) provider in Mexico.

With this approach, you buy your products in bulk and store them in a Mexican 3PL warehouse.

When a customer places an order, the 3PL handles the packaging and delivery for you, just like in a traditional dropshipping model—but with faster shipping and fewer customs issues:

How does 3PL work for ecommerce?
Source

An example of a Mexican 3PL company is Cubbo, which is specialized in the ecommerce market:

Cubbo homepage

With this approach, you benefit from:

  • Faster shipping times. Since your products are already in Mexico, customers can receive their orders in 1-3 days.
  • Improved customer trust. Quick delivery times and reliable shipping help build trust with customers.
  • Avoid customs delays. Your inventory is imported in bulk, which means you clear customs once instead of dealing with customs delays on every order.
  • Custom branding options. Many 3PLs allow you to customize packaging with your brand name and logo. This makes your store look more professional and helps you stand out in a competitive market.
  • More control over product quality. You can inspect your products before they reach customers, which reduces the number of quality issues.
  • Sell on online marketplaces. You can also use the 3PL's services to simultaneously sell your products on marketplaces like Mercado Libre.

Just keep in mind that this approach doesn't only involve benefits, it also has disadvantages.

For example, it requires an initial investment in inventory and storage fees.

And if your products don’t sell, you’re stuck with unsold inventory.

So, in short, this approach is ideal for you if:

  • You want to offer faster shipping times and compete with platforms like Mercado Libre.
  • You’re ready to invest in inventory upfront.
  • You’ve already identified products with strong demand and believe in their potential to sell.

Can you do dropshipping from Mexico and sell to other countries?

If you're based in Mexico and want to dropship to countries like the US, Canada, or even Europe, you've had this question in your head.

And guess what?

The answer is yes, you can!

As someone based in Mexico, you can work with suppliers who ship directly to customers in the US, Canada, Europe, or Latin America.

Just remember that this approach also has its own set of business challenges.

You might experience difficulties with getting approved by major payment processors like Stripe, PayPal, and Shopify Payments.

For example, Shopify Payments is not available in Mexico, and Mexican PayPal accounts can get flagged for verification issues more often:

Challenges of dropshipping in Mexico

Furthermore, marketing platforms like Facebook, Google, and TikTok sometimes flag Mexican accounts as "high risk," especially if you're selling internationally.

So, even though there are some challenges for Mexican dropshippers, you can still succeed with the right solutions.

For example, you can look into alternative payment gateways or even set up a U.S. LLC if you want access to better payment processing and ad accounts!
