Do you think the sales of your dropshipping store are not high enough? Well, look no further! In this article, I will cover one of the most essential things to increasing the sales of a dropshipping store: building trust. News flash, people don't trust new online stores that much. Especially online stores that they've never heard of before.

Why should you care about building trust in a dropshipping store?

Let's start with one.

Why should you care about this?

Why should you not create a dropshipping store like this:

Why should you put any effort into coming off as a trustworthy store instead of putting the bare minimum into your store?

Well, this is what a study on online shopping habits has to say about it:

95% of consumers have security concerns about providing personal information like their credit card when shopping at websites they have not heard of before, and 92% of consumers have concerns about providing personal information like their credit card when shopping at websites they have not shopped at in the past.

Wow!

So that means that almost all visitors to your little unknown dropshipping store don't trust you yet.

What to do now?

You can follow me below to learn 9 ways you can build trust in a dropshipping store!

10 ways you can build trust in a dropshipping store in 2024!

Now that you understand how important trust is, it's time to learn to increase it.

This way, you will surely see more sales.

Because, as you read above, people don't trust stores they've never heard of before.

So, what's to change?

1. Add all the default ecommerce store pages

I can't stress this one enough in my blog posts.

If I can put a number on it, I think around 70% of the new dropshipping stores out there don't have the default ecommerce store pages.

That's absurd, don't you think?

Yeah, some might have a few, but you will rarely see a dropshipping store with all the pages.

Below you will find the pages that you could create right now.

The first ones are the ones that you can create inside ShopifyClick here if you don’t understand one of them.

You can go to Settings -> Legal to find these pages.

Setting up Shopify Dropshipping Store Checklist: Create the standard pages

You can create these pages here:

  • Privacy Policy & Terms of Service
  • Refund Policy (Click here to learn how to write an awesome Refund Policy)
  • Shipping Policy (Click here for a Shipping Policy template)

The other pages that you should put some effort into are:

  • Contact page
  • About page
  • FAQ page (More about having a FAQ page on the next step)
  • Homepage (Click here to get inspiration from the homepages from other successful dropshipping stores)

Please put some effort into creating these pages and properly displaying them on your dropshipping store.

If you want to learn more about these standard pages, I suggest reading the article I've linked below:

10 Standard Pages for a Shopify Store & How to Create Them

That article will also include some optional pages that you can add. For example, a review page and a track your order page!

2. Add an FAQ page to address the most common questions

Guess what most customers that contact you have in common?

They have questions!

So what you can do is create an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page on your store.

For example, if you use Shopify, then you can use this free Shopify app.

You will answer the most important questions on this page, like how long order processing takes.

And you can even link to your FAQ page on your contact page! For example:

An FAQ page is also there for people that have questions but don't want to contact you.

Having a place in your store that you can answer questions on could be a great way to relieve the worries people have before ordering with you.

You can click here if you want to learn what kind of questions you should include on your FAQ page.

And you can see some FAQ page examples from ecommerce stores here.

3. Put time into your dropshipping store

Do you know how many people are learning about dropshipping and starting dropshipping stores right now?

For example, type into Google Trends “Dropshipping.”

Click here to go to Google Trends

Do you see how popular dropshipping is?

Everyone wants a piece of it because so many of these “gurus” advertised it as an easy way to earn money online. (Source)

But do you know what the sad thing is?

Most of them don’t put any effort into their dropshipping store.

They open their store, import some products without changing anything, and start advertising.

For example:

Do you see the simple design of this store?

Anybody can put this online store together and start selling the next day.

So taking some time to make your dropshipping store stand out not only helps you with beating your competition, but it will also help you gain more trust with your visitors!

Because why would people trust a store that looks like a six-year-old designed it?

Also, most people fail with their dropshipping stores because they are not unique.

So...

If you want to improve this, then I suggest reading this article.

I will cover everything on how to be more unique than your competition, including product descriptions, images, and site design.

4. Add Trust Badges

There are people that will abandon their cart if they have security concerns.

Trust badges are there to increase the trust your store visitors have in you.

Adding trust badges is one of the easiest ways to increase trust and even conversion rates for your Shopify store in 2024!

You can add trust badges to your product, cart, and checkout page.

If you want to learn more about why some people add trust badges to their store and why some people don’t like it, then I suggest reading the articles I've linked below:

5. Add Social Proof

Shopify Dropshipping Conversion Rate Optimization: Add reviews
From Kudosi (formerly Ali Reviews)

One study found that 88% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations, and 72% of consumers say positive reviews make them trust businesses more.

Millennials, in particular, trust user-generated content 50% more than other media.

If you're interested in learning more about how to get reviews on your dropshipping store (even when you don't have any customers yet), then you can click here!

6. Be available for customer inquiries

Please treat your customers as kings (or queens).

Wait.

I will start by showing you some screenshots of what will happen to your dropshipping store if you don't treat your customers right:

And here is one more from a general dropshipping store named Shopolis.

And this one is from a dropshipping store called HYGO Shop.

I've also included this dropshipping store in my best dropshipping store examples article, but I see now that they are also getting a lot of negative reviews.

Alright, now you know that your customers can make or break your dropshipping business.

So, how do you make your customers happy?

Firstly, always try to be as polite and understanding as possible when you reply to a customer with questions or demands.

Secondly, spend your time building a store where you look first at what the customer wants and not what your pockets want.

Sounds easy, right?

Well...

It could be, but a lot of people just don't care about their customers.

And then you will see more of these 1-star review pages appear.

If you understand now that customer service is important, then I suggest reading the articles I've linked below:

Keep in mind that these articles above are big articles, but they contain everything you need to know about that topic!

7. Detailed Product Descriptions

Do you think your store visitors will trust you if you've got a product description like this:

Let me burst that bubble for you.

No!

They won't.

Maybe some will still purchase from you, but the majority will be like, "What is this product about?"

They will have so many questions that there is a high chance that they will leave your dropshipping store and never return.

If you want to learn how to write better product descriptions, then I suggest reading How to Write Awesome Nr. 1 Dropshipping Product Descriptions, written by me!

8. Create detailed product images and think about adding real people

This will be the same as with the product descriptions above.

Which one do you think your store visitors will like more? This one:

Or this one:

Which one do you think your store visitors are going to love more?

Which one do you think they are more likely to buy from?

The first one, which is just normal looking, or the second one where you can see that someone really put the time into it to make the image look great?

I don’t think I need to say the answer, but indeed the second one!

If you want to learn more about this, then I suggest reading How to Get Awesome Product Images When Dropshipping by me!

Adding real people to your product images

Another great tip is adding real people to your product images.

For example, human photos with a focus on the face have a much better impact (as the emotional connection is stronger). (Source)

Awesome, right?

I've just got two things to note for this one:

  • Don't just use stock photos. There is a high chance that people will recognize that these are stock photos.
  • Get permission. For example, don't just copy a picture with a person from your supplier. Make sure you have permission to use that picture!

If you want more information about this, then I suggest reading this great article from Wordstream.

9. Look at Content Marketing to increase your authority

Another great way to increase the trust people have in your dropshipping store is to start with content marketing.

Content marketing can increase your authority inside your niche. (Source)

But what is content marketing?

Let's hear it from Growcode:

It’s basically the creation and delivery of online content that targets all customers. The web-based material – which is free, by the way – gets the customer to do something.

Content marketing is educational. However, the focus isn’t on the products the company is trying to sell. No. The marketer offers good info to make people intensely loyal to the brand.

The content is working towards a bigger goal, as you can see.

From Growcode

Content marketing is also great for SEO to get free traffic from, for example, Google!

So, your goal is to create content that gives information for free.

Something like my blog if it has a goal of selling you something (think about a course...).

You would love the free content and will start looking at what else I've got to offer.

Well, I don't sell anything here, so just see it as an example, haha!

The same goes for your dropshipping store.

A great way to start with content marketing and getting free traffic is to create a blog on your dropshipping store.

Doing this is great to show that you have knowledge inside the niche that you’re selling in, and it’s great for keeping your visitors staying longer on your dropshipping store.

If you want to learn more about why a blog is great to have, then I suggest watching the video below by Neil Patel.

10. Use direct mail

If you're currently scaling your dropshipping store and receiving consistent sales, one effective yet often overlooked strategy for increasing trust (and sales) is direct mail marketing!

By sending physical postcards, you can create a memorable experience and connect with customers or store visitors. (Unlike digital ads that get lost in crowded inboxes.)

Services like PostPilot make this process easy by offering targeted campaigns that integrate directly with your ecommerce platform:

PostPilot homepage

Direct mail provides a physical touchpoint that digital ads can't match.

Customers are more likely to remember and engage with something they can hold in their hands!

Direct mail increase LTV

Unlike crowded email inboxes, direct mailboxes have less competition, increasing the chances of your mail being noticed.

According to PostPilot, direct mail gets up to 95% open rates and 28% response rates!

PostPilot statistics

Receiving a well-designed mailpiece can also build trust and credibility with your customers.

This can really upgrade your brand image as most other dropshippers (and even established brands) simply don't use this marketing method!

PostPilot social proof

The con of direct mail is that it works best when you have a significant amount of data that shows customer segments you can target.

Therefore, PostPilot recommends having at least $3 million in annual store revenue to ensure the segment sizes are large enough to gather statistically relevant data and impact your overall business.
