Learning to brand a dropshipping store is key to improving your store and beating your competition.
If your customers are coming back to purchase more, then that's not only a great feeling, but it's also a great way to save money on acquiring new customers! Follow me below to learn how to brand your dropshipping store.
What Is Branding and Why Should You Care About Branding Your Dropshipping Store?

Branding a dropshipping store gives you the opportunity to create a long-term ecommerce store.
Branding is also great to increase the percentage of customers returning to your store.
The opportunity of a branded dropshipping store is great in 2023 because not everyone wants to put this amount of time into their business.
If you want to learn more about why branding is so important for dropshipping stores, then I suggest reading Dropshipping Branding: What Is It & Why Should You Care?
7+ Tips for Branding Your Dropshipping Store in 2023!
Now you hopefully know how important branding for a dropshipping store is, right?
And not only that, it's important for most ecommerce stores and services out there!
Let's continue this by learning how to brand your dropshipping store in 2023.
Below you will find all my tips that will help you with the branding of your store.
1) Get a memorable name and or logo

Let's start with this one.
In this tip, I will explain why having a memorable name and or logo is important for a brand.
If you want to learn how to choose the perfect name for your store or how to get a logo for your store, then I suggest reading this article here.
The importance of having a great name for your dropshipping store
Do you know why it is important to name your dropshipping store correctly?
Well…
Because the name is the identity of your dropshipping store.
Just like what your personal name is with you. If your marketing is great, then that name will be “stuck” with people.
For example, you probably know what brand I’m talking about when I write down the following words:
- Apple
- LG
- Chrome
- Amazon
Easy, right?
That’s the power of having an awesome name for your store (or service).
Another great thing about this is that you can use that name, if you got the domain name as well, to create an awesome free branded email address. (More information about that here)
The importance of having a great logo for your dropshipping store
Now you know that choosing the perfect name is important, let's continue with why having a great logo is also important for your dropshipping store.
Just like the name of your store, a logo can be remembered easily by your visitors.
I can’t say it better than Chrysalis:
A logo is an important part of your company’s brand, and makes a significant impact on a company’s public perception. In fact, a logo is one of the most important branding investments a business can make.
From Chrysalis
For example, you can probably name all the three brands below:

And?
How did you do? Easy?
2) Put some effort into designing your dropshipping store
This step is so important, but the reason I add it is that most people don't put any effort and time into their dropshipping stores.
Firstly, do you know why so many people don't put any effort into their stores?
Well, because a lot of “gurus” advertise dropshipping as an easy way to earn money.
Most of the people that follow these “gurus” open a store in a few hours, and start advertising almost directly.
Here is more information about these “gurus”, and why they are selling courses.
And do you know what the saddest thing is?
After all that “work”, they expect to be rich the new day or maybe the next week.
Because dropshipping is so easy, right?
No, it's not!
I'm sorry to burst your dreams!
So what to do then?
You got to put time and effort into your dropshipping store!
This is great because now you can also focus on creating a brand.
Because how high do you think the chance is that a dropshipping store looking like the one below will be remembered as a brand by a lot of people?

Step 1. Be unique

This one is the most important one.
You can't try to build a dropshipping brand while you look exactly like other dropshipping stores out there!
If your dropshipping store looks something like the dropshipping store example above, then take some time to redesign your store before you're looking at creating a brand!
So, my biggest tip to be unique is to not just copy everyone else.
Be different than your dropshipping competitors!
If you want to learn more things that you can do to be more unique, then I suggest reading my other article here.
Step 2. Creating the basic pages
Next up is creating the basic pages for your dropshipping store.
Do you know what the funny thing is?
Most dropshipping stores don't have all the basic pages in their store.
Some don't have any pages at all…
Creating these basic pages will increase trust, and will make people trust you more.
And that's great to have when you're trying to build a brand!
Because why would people trust a store that doesn't even have a Refund Policy? Or why should they trust a store if there is no way to contact the owner or support team of that store?
Below you will find the pages that you could create right now in Shopify.
- Privacy Policy & Terms of Service
- Refund Policy (Click here to learn how to write an awesome Refund Policy)
- Shipping Policy (Click here for a Shipping Policy template)
And here are some other pages that you can put effort into:
- Contact page
- About page
- FAQ page (Click here to learn more about how to create a FAQ page and why it is important to have)
- Homepage (Click here to get inspiration from the homepages from other successful dropshipping stores)
If you want to learn more about these basic pages, then I suggest reading the article I linked to below:
10 Standard Pages for a Shopify Store & How to Create Them
That article will also include some optional pages that you can add. For example, a reviews page and a track your order page!
Step 3. Creating a Favicon
If you followed me above, then you probably got a logo right now. Or maybe you have an idea for your logo!
Next up is learning that having a Favicon is also great for some extra brand recognition. (If you want to learn more about brand recognition, then you can click here)
The favicon is small, but it has a significant impact on brand recognition. (Source)
I will use my own blog as an example for you.
Do you see my favicon next to the name of the blog?

If you're interested in creating a favicon as well, then I suggest reading this here.
Step 4. Color design

The next one is choosing your colors.
Most people don't care that much about the colors on their dropshipping store, for example, take a look at these 5 bad dropshipping store examples.
But it is important if you want to brand your dropshipping store!
Plus, it's important if you want your dropshipping store to look good.
But don't worry, I will help you with this.
First of all, I suggest you read Branding colors: everything you need to choose your brand’s color palette by 99designs.
And secondly, I got a few tools for you that will help you with picking colors for your dropshipping store!
The first tool is called Coolors.

And the second tool is called Color Calculator from Sessions College.

And I suggest watching this great video from Neil Patel:
Awesome, right?
Step 5. Picking your fonts
And the last step from this tip is picking your fonts.
Pick no more than two fonts to avoid unnecessarily confusing visitors.
One for headings and one for body text. (This doesn't include the font you might use in your logo)
You can use FontPair to browse from a wide selection of fonts that go well together.

You can even download them if necessary.
If you're interested in going more in-depth on picking fonts for your brand, then I suggest reading one (or more) of the articles I linked to below:
- Build your brand: How to choose the right fonts

And I suggest watching the video below:
3) Write a slogan
In case you don't know what a slogan is, then this is for you from MakeWebBetter:
A slogan is a small group of words that describe your company. I’m loving it…this slogan of McDonald’s was on every kid’s mind. Through the slogan, your customers can remember you throughout their life.
From MakeWebBetter
Slogans can also be used for dropshipping stores, but it might be a bit harder to come up with something original!
Definitely, if you're running a general dropshipping store.
Most general dropshipping stores have something like this:
- “We are on the hunt for the best products over the whole world”
- “Shop with us and get the lowest price on everything”
You get my point.
It will be more catchy if you can think of a slogan when you're running a niche dropshipping store.
For example:
- Cat store. “Let's make cats great again”
- Dog store. “Making dogs happier, one paw at the time”
See where I'm going with this?
Just to note, I didn't check for any trademarks for these slogans, they are just an example!
And you don't need to add your niche to your slogan.
For example, Nike only got: “Just do it” as a slogan.
Not: “Just use these shoes”.
Here are some more examples from companies with amazing slogans (Credits to Shopify for making this list, and explaining what kind of slogan it is):
- Stake your claim: Death Wish Coffee—”The World's Strongest Coffee”
- Make it a Metaphor: Redbull—“Redbull gives you wings.”
- Adopt your customers’ attitude: Nike—”Just do it.”
- Leverage labels: Cards Against Humanity—”A party game for horrible people”.
- Write a rhyme: Folgers Coffee: “The best part of wakin' up is Folgers in your cup.”
- Describe it literally: Aritzia—”Women's fashion boutique”
Keep in mind that you can always change your slogan.
For example, did you know Pepsi has gone through over 30 slogans in the past few decades? (Source)
Awesome, right?
If you're interested now in creating a slogan for your dropshipping store, then I suggest checking out the free Slogan Maker from Shopify here.

I also suggest you take a look at the video below:
4) Build a brand by taking care of your customers
If you want your customers to come back to your dropshipping store and remain loyal to your brand, then you need to focus on providing a great purchasing experience.
One of the things that you can do to improve this is by providing great top customer service.
Start thinking about your customers first, instead of your own pockets.
This will definitely help you kickstart your dropshipping store and will help you keep it alive as well!
You don’t want any bad reviews, trust me. (Although, it can have its benefits if you handle it correctly)
But I know you’re probably skeptical.
That’s why I got some examples below for you. You will see what will happen with your review or Facebook page after giving bad customer service to your customers.

Status dropshipping store: Offline

Status dropshipping store: Offline
Do you see the trend?
Well, if you’re worried now or if you want to see some more examples of dropshipping stores who have bad customer service (or not at all), then I suggest reading the articles that I linked to below:
- Customer Service for Dropshipping Stores – Complete Guide!
- Dropshipping Returns & Refunds: Everything You Need to Know
I also included a link to how to handle refunds and returns when dropshipping, because that is a topic that most dropshipping beginners don’t understand, and if you don’t understand something, then you can’t be the best for your customers!
Also, do you know what happens to happy customers? This:
Happy customers who get their issue resolved tell about 4-6 people about their experience. (Source)
So that means that if your customers are happy that they are more likely to tell others about your store!
Meaning more customers for you!
Rewarding loyal customers
Another way to be the best for your customers is to reward loyal customers.
This way, you have more chance that your current customers keep coming back to your store.
And that is great for building a long-term brand!
If you want to learn more about how to reward loyal customers, then I suggest reading the articles I linked to below:

This tip will be short because Shopify has a great article about this!

I also suggest taking a look at this article from BigCommerce.
They go in-depth on how to share your brand story by showing you a few examples, and explaining what needs to be in it!
For example, they went through this about us page from Renogy:

I also suggest watching this great video by Neil Patel:
5) Using content marketing
You can use content marketing to increase your brand awareness.
Did you know that 66% of consumers want more meaningful experiences from brands?
And, 70% of them prefer to learn about products through content, not ads. (Source)
Here is an example from MakeWebBetter:
Whether it’s social media posting, sending emails to your customer, providing offers/discounts/rewards for all these things you need content. Without content, you can’t accomplish any of the tasks. Your every ecommerce branding strategies are incomplete without content.

6) Improving the delivery time
The next tip that I got for you that will help you on your branding journey is to do something with your delivery time.
If you didn't know having a fast delivery time is important while dropshipping, then this is for you:
A report of late 2017 shows that the maximum delivery time that shoppers will accept in order to receive free shipping is on average 4.5 days. That’s down a full day from 5.5 days in a similar survey in 2012.

To make it even worse, prime members expect their free deliveries to arrive on average within a maximum of 3.8 days.
If you're dropshipping with AliExpress, then you're probably thinking: “How am I going to send the order in less than 4 days?”
Good thinking!
That's where AliExpress alternatives come into play.
There are so many other platforms or services that you can source your products from.
But most people are stuck thinking that AliExpress is the only method for dropshipping.
Luckily this is not the case!
Why do you need a faster delivery time when you want to build a branded dropshipping store?
Simple.
Do you think your customers will return to your store after they have waited an average of 3 weeks for their order?
And do you think they will order again if they see the ugly package of your AliExpress supplier? (More on that in my next tip)
I don't think so.
So, what can you do?
Use a dropshipping supplier that can deliver your order quickly to your customer.
I suggest checking out these two articles of mine if you want to learn more about this:
- 15 Alternatives to Dropshipping With AliExpress in 2023!
- How to Have a Fast Delivery Time When Dropshipping in 2023?
If you don't want to read another article right now, then I got an example for you here.

You can take a look at Spocket if you're dropshipping to the US.

Most of their suppliers are based in the US or Europe, which means that you can cut your shipping times by a lot!
Also, if you want something similar to Spocket but not Spocket, then check out these Spocket alternatives.
7) Branded packaging while dropshipping
The last tip for you on this list will go over why branded packaging will help your dropshipping store!
For example, take a look at this great design from At Pace Design:

If you want more examples, then I suggest clicking here for 50 package designs from Canva.
That's great but how to do that while dropshipping?
Great question!
If you're using AliExpress, then you will need to contact your supplier to see what's possible with custom packaging. More information about that in this video:
If you don't use AliExpress, then I suggest using something like HyperSKU, which offers these things:
Available? | |
Custom product label/logo | Yes, but it depends on the product type |
Branded packaging | Yes |
Branded invoice | Yes, if requested |
Here's an easy-to-view image from HyperSKU:

I hope this article made you see that creating a dropshipping brand doesn't have to be a waste of time.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for answering my previous questions in detail
I understand the importance of branding, however as a beginner do you recommend to start dropshipping from Aliexpress and the gradually build your brand? This is because it is difficult with Aliexpress as delivery times are very long and it is difficult/costly to have branded packaging. My initial thought was to start with Aliexpress and then transition to more efficient suppliers later on? Also should I avoid suppliers on Aliexpress that already have a “logo” on their products?
In terms of store design, do you recommend that I write all the essential pages/policy and design logo, site colours etc…. before getting a shopify subscription?
As always thanks for the content
Hi Abdu,
If you’re a beginner and you don’t have any experience yet, then starting with AliExpress is indeed one of the best choices you have. Well, I guess it’s the easiest choice as well.
Your plan sounds absolutely perfect. Most use AliExpress to get to know the dropshipping model and ecommerce in general (plus, it’s great for testing products), and then once they are making some consistent sales, they move on to different options, like local dropshipping suppliers to get a better delivery time and better branding options!
Just to be sure, what do you mean with AliExpress suppliers that have a logo on their product? Do you mean that they got a logo on the product image? Or do you mean that the product is branded by them and people can, for example, search that name on Google and then find the AliExpress store themself?
And for your last question, yes, please take your time with these things. Your trial is 14 days, so it’s always great to do some work before you signup for Shopify. For example, you could write the documents on Word, and get your logo designed already. Because maybe the writing, and the designing, and so on takes you more than a month, then that means that you just paid Shopify an extra month without you using it yet to sell any products!
Have a great day, and let me know if you have any more questions!
– Richard
Thanks for the response.
I often find products images that have logos on AliExpress and it seems the product is branded by them. Also I have ordered from AliExpress before and often with the product, you receive suppliers detail and promotions? How do you get around that, do you have to inform the supplier every single time you get an order to remove those ?
Thanks for the help
Hi Abdu,
For your first question, if it’s just a logo on the product image, then you can remove that from the image (do check if for copyright though, you could even contact the AliExpress seller to be extra safe. Maybe even ask them for images without the logo!)
If the product itself is branded, then that is a choice you need to make if you want it on your dropshipping store or not. Do you want people to Google the name and find the AliExpress seller and not you?
You could always ask the seller to be sure if there is no logo on the product.
For your second question, you can find my answer in this article here. It’s called blind dropshipping!
Let me know if you got any more questions and good luck with everything!
– Richard
Thanks for the great information! I want to start a dropshipping store. Which store is better General, Niche or Single product?
Hi Louis,
Thank you for your comment! That’s a great question. You can find more information about the difference between a general and a niche store (the pros & cons) in this article here.
Plus, you can read more about the one product store here. We didn’t write much about the one product store yet though, but we got a few articles planned!
Good luck with everything!

Hey Richard,
I’m currently working at a marketing agency, reading books, and learning as much as I can. I stopped watching youtube videos as every one of them doesn`t tell you the real way to succeed in dropshipping, which in my opinion is building a brand, telling your story, and differentiating yourself. I stumbled upon one of your blogs and I couldn`t stop reading! The stuff you say is on point, really, and makes sense. Please keep us this informative content and f*** gurus!
Hi Lian,
Thank you so much for this awesome comment! Comments like these keep us motivated to keep going, so thank you for that 😊
I want to wish you the best with everything, and let me know if you ever have any questions!
