Looking to start a dropshipping store around the hiking niche?
In that case, this article will be incredibly valuable for you.
A big part of starting your own dropshipping store is doing research.
Before you start advertising, you must know things like:
- Which product are you going to sell?
- What kind of people will like it?
- What are your competitors doing?
- And more.
Well, you’re in luck. We have taken some work out of your hands and already did a bit of research on the hiking niche!
In this article, you will find some essential information about the hiking niche, such as the ecommerce market statistics, a list of five inspiring dropshipping store examples, and a list of six excellent hiking niche products.
Be aware though, do not recklessly copy and paste everything from another dropshipping store to your own store.
This will not work.
It’s essential to put in a lot of effort into your business and make it unique for the highest chances of succeeding.
With that out of the way, let me tell you some things about the hiking niche!
Information about the hiking niche
When people go hiking, they go for an (often pretty long) recreational walk through the woods or country.
Some people also love going hiking for multiple days successively, which is called backpacking.
As you can imagine, these long walks can’t be done easily when wearing your regular jeans and shoes.
Hikers need special equipment such as rainproof gear, a backpack, and sturdy boots for the best hiking experience.
Furthermore, almost all hikers carry water, food, and a map in special containers.
But that’s not all. Hikers will buy a variety of products that will make the walk more comfortable and safer. Think about:
- A compass
- A first aid kit
- A fire starter
- A knife
- A GPS navigation device
- Ultra-light tents
- and more!
Hiking can give you a lot of benefits. I won’t go through all of them here, but I found this awesome article that showcases a list of eight benefits you will get from hiking.
The great thing about the hiking niche is that lately, it has been trending:
I think this is due to the coronavirus. When governments introduced measures to combat the pandemic, many people were locked up inside their homes, and some weren’t able to play their favorite indoor sport.
Meanwhile, hiking was one of the few activities that almost everyone was able to do, and therefore, the interest in it started trending upwards.
The hiking niche: Market information
Actually, the hiking market has already been trending for a longer time.
In 2019, the global hiking gear and equipment market was estimated at $4.5 billion, and it is expected to reach $7.4 billion by 2027.
Those are some pretty nice growth numbers, right?
Last but not least, your target audience will be difficult to distinguish in terms of age. As you can see in the image below, pretty much all age groups love hiking.
This is the share of Americans who went hiking in the last 12 months in 2018:
The list of 5 amazing hiking niche dropshipping stores
As I’ve mentioned before, I will show you some great dropshipping stores and products for inspiration.
We will start with some examples of dropshipping stores in the hiking niche.
But don’t worry, I won’t just post a few links to some stores and call it a day.
I will also review each store on this list and tell you about some things you can learn from them.
Hopefully, this list will inspire you to create your own (hiking) store. As a last tip, don’t forget that you can look at the catalog of these stores to find some more excellent hiking product examples.
1. Delta Hiking
The first dropshipping store example I have for you today is a great one; Delta Hiking.
Delta Hiking’s strongest point is that it really resembles a private labeled brand.
They have a great website design and story.
I will go over some of the things you should look at below:
The color scheme
When going through their website, you can see that Delta Hiking uses a green color throughout their website.
For example, take a look at these elements:
- Announcement bar
- Buy now button
- Chat pop up
- Background images
Even most of their products are green:
Let’s take a look at their products’ names. You will be able to see some of them in the image above.
Delta Hiking wants visitors to believe that they are the manufacturer of the products. They have given their products branded names like “DELTAHAMMOCK” and “DELTADOUBLE”.
I really like naming your products like this. The only thing that I wasn’t sure about is using the trademark symbol.
However, after looking it up, I found out that the trademark symbol has no legal meaning. So, you can use it in your product names without getting into legal issues.
I think Delta Hiking’s product pages look really good:
Here are some things to look at for this product page:
- Product images. Delta Hiking only uses images with a white background. This makes them look very clean on the product page.
- Product description. I think that the product description is very well written. It reads like a story while still highlighting the benefits you will get with this product.
- Reviews. Delta Hiking has a reviews section on each product page highlighting some people using the product they are selling.
Support a good cause
For every order Delta Hiking gets, they will plant one tree.
In my opinion, this is a great thing as it helps to keep the earth healthy and will, on some occasions, push doubting customers over the line to make a purchase.
The next dropshipping store example is called Vertex Hiking.
They sell hiking equipment for people who hike for multiple days and therefore have to camp while en route.
Here are some great things about this dropshipping store:
Newsletter sign up
Vertex Hiking doesn’t use the standard newsletter text. For example, something like “Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest deals”.
Instead, they promise not to spam and send out just a little bit of love every now and then:
It’s a nice touch!
Vertex Hiking sells some great hiking equipment products.
For example, take a look at this full survival kit:
It contains fifteen items you will need to survive any situation in the wild.
You can also find this product on AliExpress here.
Shiking is a hiking dropshipping store that focuses on selling one of the most important equipment pieces for a hiker, a backpack.
Here are some aspects that the owner of this business did really well:
The homepage design
I think this store’s homepage design looks really nice.
First of all, you can see that they probably created a custom image for their homepage above.
It features a woman wearing their product while hiking, and on the left, the hiking bag is nicely edited in (even with a reflection).
Furthermore, when scrolling downwards, you will find a clean-looking section with some benefits of this product:
The product images are high quality, and the color matches the website’s design. Great job!
I think Shiking sells some great hiking products.
They don’t have a huge catalog, but I think that the products they do sell are pretty sweet.
For example, take a look at this mini foldable picnic mat:
For hikers, having small and ultra-lightweight equipment is essential, as every gram makes a difference when walking hours a day.
This picnic mat folds down into a small pocket that fits in your hand and has multiple benefits and uses!
You will also be able to find this product on AliExpress here.
4. West Hikers
West Hikers is a dropshipping store with a story.
It’s created by people who are passionate about hiking themselves who wanted to accompany each hiker on their next adventure.
Similarly to Delta Hiking, they also have a program where they plant one tree for every order:
Here are some things to pay extra attention to when looking at this store:
Online stores with a great story definitely have more chance of succeeding.
As the saying goes:
People buy stories, not products.
West Hiker has created a great “Our Brand” page where they tell stories about the movement they are trying to develop and their philosophy:
Product description with many images
For example, for this product, you will find that they used many images of the product in the product description.
These images show the product in use and its benefits, which I can imagine helps to convert some visitors.
Also, do you notice how West Hikers has a matching color for their reviews, pricing, add to cart button, and bulk discounts?
Looks pretty nice, right?
The FAQ page
At last, West Hikers has a fantastic FAQ page.
You can check it out here:

The last store example I have for you today is an unusual one; I’d Hike That.
This store is probably using Print on Demand to dropship their collection of apparel, hats, stickers, and accessories.
Just like West Hikers, this store is created by people who absolutely love hiking.
Here are some things that they are doing exceptionally well:
I’d Hike That has built a large Instagram page to get free traffic to their store.
On their Instagram page, I’d Hike That is posting images of beautiful hiking scenery, and they have currently built a following of over 75,000 followers:
Also, take a look at their Pinterest account, which currently gets over 170k monthly views.
If you’re interested in how you can get this many views on Pinterest for your business, I recommend reading this article.
To get even more organic traffic to their online store, I’d Hike That has created a blog with over 50 articles talking about everything related to hiking.
A blog is not only great for free traffic, but it also shows your customers that you have a lot of knowledge about your store’s niche!
Finally, I think that their footer looks great!
It has all the elements of a perfect footer:
- Links to the standard online store pages
- Shop link
- Details about the company & their contact information
Also, if you look closely, you can see that there is a nice and subtle pattern in the background.

This is the best example of a dropshipping store selling this product that I was able to find:
