Are you just starting with dropshipping and you don't know how to name your dropshipping store?
Well, don't worry! You're not the only one with this question!
I will help you with this question by giving you 10 tips to finding the perfect name for your dropshipping store in 2024! Are you ready to name your store?
Why is it important to name your dropshipping store correctly?
Do you know why it is important to name your dropshipping store correctly?
Well...
Because the name is the identity of your dropshipping store.
Just like what your personal name is with you.
Did you know “Fallas” is an outlet thrift store in the U.S. that translates to “Failures” in Spanish? The percent of Spanish speaking people who go the store is low because of the name alone. They’ve already lost a big part of their potential international audience!
From BigCommerce
If your marketing is great, then that name will stick with people.
For example, you probably know what brand I'm talking about when I write down the following words:
- Apple
- LG
- Chrome
- Amazon
Easy, right?
That's the power of having an awesome name for your store (or service).
How do you choose the perfect name for your dropshipping store?
Now that you know why naming your dropshipping store is important, it's time to learn how to choose the perfect name!
Below you will find 10 different tips that you can use to get inspiration for the perfect name for your dropshipping store.
How awesome is that?
And don't forget that you don't have to get your name perfect the first day that you're brainstorming.
It might take a couple of weeks before you get the perfect idea.
And even then, some people decide to change the name of their dropshipping store even when they are already live.
Also, if you want tips on how to brainstorm, then I suggest reading 10 Tips for Effective Creative Brainstorming by Design Shack.
1. Use a generator
The first one is obvious, but some people might not know that they exist.
Using name generators!
These generators can help you find the perfect name or give you inspiration for your brainstorming.
Below you will find some tools that can help you with the brainstorming process of finding a good name.
Just fill in a word, and these tools will give you a lot of inspiration.
For example, if you’re in the garden niche.
Try filling in something related to that niche to see what it gives you back. Like ‘garden’ or ‘trees’, or maybe ‘flowers’.
For example, see my screenshot below:
Do you see how many awesome ideas you can get from these tools?
Here are a few of these generators:
- Business Name Generator by Shopify
- Lean Domain Search
- Instant Domain Search
- Business Name Generator by WithinTheFlow
- If that’s not enough for you, then you can click here to view a lot more of these tools.
Another awesome tip for finding a great name for your dropshipping store is by going to the website Expired Domains. This site shows most of the expired and deleted domains.
If you're not sure what a dropped domain is, you can click here to learn more. That guide will even show you what to watch out for when purchasing a dropped domain name.
Anyway, in this tool, you can type in any keyword that you want. Plus, you can even sort by only showing '.com' domains. Here is an example of 'garden':
As you can see from my screenshot above, you have a lot of sorting options available and even more when you create a free account! Awesome, right?
This might be the most important tip on this list!
If you're running a niche dropshipping store, pick a name related to your niche.
Don't suddenly name your dropshipping store 'The Snowball Store' when you only sell summer products.
I suggest you start with one of the generators you read about above and then type words related to your niche!
Another example of that is if you're in the dog niche, you could fill in "dog", "puppy", or even "pets" if you want to have a bit of a broader name for your store.
3. Make the name short and memorable
Like the brand names I gave you at the beginning of this article as a test to see how easy it is to remember a name.
Do you know what they have in common?
Their names are short and memorable!
If you hear them once, there is a high chance that it will stay stuck in your head.
Don't give your store a name that is impossible to remember.
For example, will you remember the name "Pets And Some Dogs, Oh And Snakes" or "Cats Plus Free Food"?
I know... Weird names, haha.
I hope you understand what I mean!
4. Make the name easy to type and easy to understand
For example, what do you think is easier to remember:
DogsFood or DogzzzzFood?
It will be harder to get your visitors to remember how many "z"'s are in your store's name!
Your visitor might remember DogzFood, but not with how many "z"'s.
This will make it almost impossible for them to come back to your store.
Maybe they type in "DogzzFood" and "DogzzzFood"; there is a high chance that they will give up after not seeing your store popup.
How can they know that they just need to try one more time with one more "z"?
5. Avoid the use of special characters
Characters like $, €, @, # and so on are not allowed in the domain names.
So choosing to add them to your dropshipping store name might not be a great idea.
Primarily, domains cannot have special characters. The only symbol allowed is the hyphen, but even so, it cannot be placed at the start or the end of a name.
From Quad Letter Domains
It's better to avoid these special characters as they are hard to pronounce and even harder to remember (like you saw in the tip above).
6. Make sure the name is unique and not offensive
Don't name your dropshipping store almost identically to your competitor.
For example, if your competitor is called "DogsAndCat", don't call yourself "CatsAndDogs".
Another great quote is this one from Get.Store:
Also, you must remember that your brand isn’t just competing with industry players; it’s wrestling with millions of other brands across millions of domain names.
From Get.Store
And don't forget, don't be offensive with your dropshipping store.
If your store's name contains a rude word, there is a chance that not everyone is going to like that...
7. Check for legal issues
Check to see if there are any trademarks and copyrights around the name that you picked.
For example, don't pick PokemonStore and start dropshipping Pokemon products…
The same goes for the tip above: don't make your name almost the same as your competitor and expect not to get any legal issues later on.
So, don’t name your store ‘NikeBalls’ or ‘PokemonWorld’ or anything that contains a trademark!
Also, here is some more information about domain names and trademarks.
8. You could focus on SEO
If you're focused on getting free traffic for your dropshipping store, then focusing on SEO with your name could be a great thing for you!
For example, you could pick a keyword-rich name.
This means that if you're in the dog niche and you're selling dog products, you try to make that clear to everyone in your name.
Try to put "Dog", "Dog Products", or "Pets" in your name if you want to have a keyword-rich name.
Another example to make this even easier for you: do you see my name?
Do Dropshipping.
Is it clear for you after reading that name what this website is about?
Or at least, do you know what kind of subject this website might be about?
If you want to learn more about this, then I suggest reading this article written by Moz.
9. Naming your one-product dropshipping store
Naming a one-product dropshipping store is awesome!
You know the main product that you're selling.
Now, just name your store after your product.
Simple, right?
For example, you have a one-product store only selling this product:
You could name your store:
- CoolYourDog
- CoolingMatX
Just two examples, so you know what I mean.
I didn't check for any legal issues with the names above!
Do you see how easy that is?
Although, I don't suggest everyone opens a one-product dropshipping store.
If you want to learn more about this, check out this great article here, which will go over eight tips on how to start an online one-product store!
10. Don't restrict growth
This is a great tip from Quicksprout which I just had to add here for you!
Right now, your business may be focusing on something specific, whether it’s a product, location, or a target market.
But that doesn’t mean you should name your business something extremely specific.
For example, let’s say you’re creating a fashion brand selling men’s jeans. Naming your company 'Jeans for Men' is a bad idea.
What happens when you want to start making shirts, shorts, hats, or women’s clothing? The new directions no longer fit with your name.
Awesome tip, right?
If you want some more tips from Quicksprout, then I suggest reading 16 Tips for Naming Your Startup.
Also, if you feel that you made a naming mistake, then you can always read this article.
In that article, I will guide you on how to change the name of your dropshipping store and why people might want to change the name of their store!
How to create a logo for your dropshipping store
Now you know how to find the perfect name for your dropshipping store.
Do you know what's next?
In case you didn't read the title, it's creating the logo for your dropshipping store.
Just like the name of your store, a logo can be remembered easily by your visitors.
I can't say it better than Chrysalis:
A logo is an important part of your company's brand, and makes a significant impact on a company's public perception. In fact, a logo is one of the most important branding investments a business can make.
For example, you can probably name all three brands below:
And?
How did you do? Easy?
The first option when creating your logo is to create it yourself, but not everyone is skilled enough with Photoshop (or maybe Paint) to create a logo like that.
For those people, I suggest you check out Fiverr. You can get a logo there for around $5-$20.
If you're looking for more tips on how to get a logo and favicon for your store, then I suggest reading this article here.
How to purchase the domain name for your dropshipping store
Now that you've got your name and logo ready, it's time to purchase your domain name.
Of course, you can purchase your domain name before creating your logo.
That's all up to you!
I suggest you use Namecheap as your domain registrar.
I personally use them as well, and I think they are great (and cheap).
Click here to register your domain name on Namecheap.
Another option is Porkbun. This is a great option if you're looking for a domain registrar with cheaper renewal fees. (Usually, the second year is more expensive than the first year)
Also, I suggest you purchase the .com domain extension of your new store name.
It’s one of the most popular domain extensions. (Source)
One more thing, if your domain name is not available but you really like the store name that you came up with, you could try other variations of that name or start brainstorming again.
Another option is to check other domain extensions like .store instead of .com:
The great thing about a .store domain is that visitors will instantly know that they can buy from you.
According to Get.Store, an online store on a .store domain gets double the visibility!
Not to mention you also get premium access to Elevate when you own a .store domain. It's a deal platform where you can get savings worth over $1,600!
Think about a 90-day free trial on Shipstation, a 50% discount on Quickbooks, and so much more - just by owning a domain name.
If you're interested in a .store domain, you can get one here for just $0.99 for your first year!

Is it ok to use my already existing company name as the name of my dropshipping store?
Hi Theresa,
Thank you for your great comment! You can surely use the same name; keep in mind the tips covered in the article (for example, if your company name contains the word ‘cats’, but your dropshipping store will not sell cat-related products, it will not fit).
Let me know if you have any more questions, and good luck with everything!
