Halloween Ecommerce Statistics
Halloween is a holiday that is celebrated each year on October 31st. During Halloween, several activities are done, such as trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, costume parties, festive gatherings, and eating treats.
Not only is Halloween great for people who celebrate this holiday, but it’s also amazing for store owners who sell Halloween products!
Here are some statistics that will show you exactly why:
- To prepare for this holiday, Americans have spent about $8.8 billion on costumes, candy, and decorations in 2019 alone.
- If you divide the total spending by the number of Americans, every American had spent $86.27 on average in 2019!
- More than 172 million Americans celebrated Halloween in 2019.
And keep in mind, all these purchases are made for just one particular day, so selling Halloween products is an excellent opportunity to make some extra sales in October!
However, how do you decide which Halloween products to sell?
What Halloween products should you choose or avoid?
When picking Halloween products to sell on your online store, be aware that you should keep a few things in mind.
There are a few characteristics which make a particular Halloween product perfect for selling on your online store:
- Not easily found in regular stores: In the first instance, most people will be looking in local stores to buy their Halloween products. So, if you find a Halloween product which isn’t sold in most stores, you will have more potential! However, this year, I expect more people to shop online instead of in stores because of the pandemic. Use that to your advantage!
- Fitting with the current (Covid-19) situation: You will have to remember that this year (2020), group activities such as trick-or-treating may happen less frequently than usual. Instead, people may celebrate Halloween by doing stay-at-home activities such as decorating the house, organizing virtual costume nights, or having Halloween movie nights!
- Fast shipping available: Halloween is celebrated on October 31st, so if someone buys a Halloween product from you, they expect to get it before Halloween! You will have to make sure that your customers get their products on time, which is why you need a fast shipping method. If possible, I would strongly recommend a US-based supplier.
Of course, not every Halloween product is suited to sell online. When choosing Halloween products to sell, avoid products with these characteristics:
- Oversized or heavy products: Avoid selling heavy or bulky Halloween products. They occupy more room and are less efficient to transport. As a result, the shipping costs will be higher, making it harder to stay profitable.
- Copyrighted products: Copyrighted products are products that have been copied from a brand. A copyrighted Halloween product, for example, is a Freddy Krueger mask. If you would sell a copyrighted Freddy Krueger mask, you could be in big trouble when the brand behind it finds out that you’ve sold it without their consent. Also, Facebook doesn’t allow copyrighted products to be advertised on its platform.
- Consumables: Remember, you are liable for the products you sell. With consumables, it’s hard to know if they are safe and whether or not they could potentially do damage to someone. When a Halloween consumable product like candy harms anyone, you could get sued and be in big trouble.
These are all some things you should avoid when picking Halloween products to sell. In fact, these characteristics are even part of our 10 Niches to Avoid as a Beginner article. If you would like to read about the other seven, check out the article!

Keeping the list above in mind, we have created a list of 10 awesome Halloween product examples for you!
Feel free to use this list as an inspiration, or even try to sell one of these products yourself. If you do, always remember to try to be unique and don’t just copy the product photos or descriptions from another online store.
We will use AliExpress and Sell The Trend to showcase these products, but you don’t have to use AliExpress as a supplier yourself, of course.
If the product is available on AliExpress, it’s probably available at other suppliers as well! For example, you can take a look at these AliExpress alternatives or these 17 free US dropshipping suppliers.
Considering the pandemic we are currently in, this must be a perfect example product for Halloween in 2020!
Instead of those boring, typically blue or black face masks, people can buy a scary Halloween-themed face mask to look cool and protect themselves from contamination at the same time.
Considering the low cost of this product, you can also offer it as an extra for your main Halloween product and use this mask as an upsell to highen your Average Order Value!
Waah! If you are scared of spiders and have never seen this before, you probably got a bit scared for a moment.
It’s a spider earring, and you must admit, it looks really cool, right?
And it gets better. It will be even easier to spook your family and friends this year with this product. Because of social-distancing, they will be further away from you, and it will be a lot harder for them to spot that it’s fake, especially in the dark!
You can even try to sell only spider-related items such as this spider earring, spider tablecloths, spider props ranging in lots of different sizes, and many more spooky-spider products.
Not only can humans dress up to try and be the scariest they can; cats can dress up too.
With these cat bat wings, your cat will definitely win the Halloween costume dressing competition from the other cats in its neighborhood!
Maybe if he or she goes for a sprint, he or she will even take off and fly like a bat, haha!
This is a really nice product to decorate your home for Halloween.
Just add some water, toggle on the power, and it will look like you’ve just made a scary wizard’s cocktail!
With 12 LED colors to choose from and a stunning mist effect, this product will definitely amaze your friends.
Forget about the traditional costumes, it’s 2020, and inflatable costumes are here now!
With these Halloween costumes, your friends can have amazing costume parties together. Inflatable costumes look fantastic because they hide your natural human shape and let you look like something else to others.
As an example, I’ve added this inflatable dinosaur costume above.
It would also be fun to scare people who come to your house like quests or children who are trick-or-treating. They will think it’s just an inflatable decoration piece, but then suddenly, you will start moving towards them. That will scare them for sure!
Don’t forget that there are inflatable costumes in all sorts and shapes. Check out this inflatable alien costume:
This product did really well last year. If you celebrate Halloween, you’ve probably already seen the previous year’s ads with it.
This product has a Wow-factor to it; when putting on the mask, you really stand out from the audience!
As you can see, it isn’t that expensive either, only $3.88!
Because of the Covid-19 virus, not all people will be going outside to celebrate Halloween with others.
To stay safe, a lot of people may organize an activity at home with their family. A Halloween movie night, for example!
What do you need for a movie night? A cozy blanket, comfy pajamas, wine, and… a serving bowl for the snacks!
What better serving bowl to have during a Halloween movie night than this one? With its spooky appearance, it will definitely make everyone feel in a holiday mood.
Yes, it’s Halloween!
Here’s another example of some cool Halloween bowls:
If you have kids, a fantastic activity to celebrate Halloween is to bake some Halloween cookies together! It’s really a joyful thing to do, and at the same time, you spend some quality time together.
After you’re done backing, the fun doesn’t end! You can use the cookies as a decoration for the house, or just enjoy eating them all, together.
With these cookie cutters, you will be able to make pumpkin, dolls, bat, spider, wizard’s hat, and even ghost-shaped cookies!
You know that girls love makeup, so you can be sure that they will love this glow in the dark makeup palette!
It’s great to use for Halloween since you will get loads of cool effects with it, such as glitter and glow in the dark!
Here’s an example of someone using it:
As you can see, it’s amazing to use it for Halloween! If you come to a glow in the dark party with this, you will stand out for sure!
And the great thing is, it can also be used outside of Halloween. You can put on this makeup anytime you have a party in the dark.
10. Halloween scavenger hunt pack
At last, I’m not giving you one product, but multiple products which you can combine into a bundle!
So, instead of selling only 1 product, why not bundle a few products together and sell it as an all-in-one pack to do a fun activity?
You can combine products and make Halloween movie night bundles, Halloween cooking bundles, or a Halloween scavenger hunt bundle!
With a Halloween scavenger hunt bundle, you can combine some products which your customers can use to do a scavenger hunt with!
Then, kids would be given a list of Halloween-themed things to look out and search for during the scavenger hunt and keep the products as a gift afterward.
This is also an excellent idea for parents who want to organize something else for their kids this year instead of trick-and-treating!
Here are some example products you could combine into a Halloween scavenger hunt bundle:
Halloween balloons, in which parents could also tuck in some small extra gifts like a few dollar bills.
Wind-up toys, with which kids can play afterward and put in their rooms as decoration.
And as the last one, this mysterious spider box! When kids find this item, they will open it out of curiosity, and will probably be very startled once they see what jumps out of it! Afterward, they will try it on their friends and family, of course, making it a great product to have.
This is just one example of the many bundles you can make yourself. When selling bundles, make sure to explain what the thought behind it is and walk your customer through on how they will use it!
