Bad dropshipping store examples? You might be guessing why I would make a list like that.
Well, it's really simple. If you can see what people are doing wrong with their dropshipping store, then you're less likely to make the same mistakes!
Thus giving you more of a chance of beating your competition later on. That's awesome, right?
Why only 5 examples?
You might be wondering right now: why just 5 examples? Well, that's because I won't repeat anything, and most examples on this list contain more than 3 things to look at! So, I'm 100% sure you will learn something new! Awesome, right?
Why is looking at bad dropshipping store examples great for your own store?
One word? Inspiration!
It's great to see what other dropshipping store owners are doing with their store and what they are doing wrong.
It's also great when you're just starting out and you have no idea how your dropshipping store is supposed to look.
If you can see what other dropshipping stores are doing wrong, then this gives you a great advantage over your competition!
You will know exactly how to make your dropshipping store better than theirs.
The list of 5 bad dropshipping store examples
So, are you ready for some bad dropshipping store examples?
Below you will find a whole list of examples!
With every dropshipping store, I will give you some things to think about so you know what to improve / what mistakes not to make.
One thing to note though:
Everyone has a bad dropshipping experience at one point. This list is not a roast of showing how bad people are.
It's for you (and hopefully for them) to see what things can be done to bring your/their dropshipping store to the next level.
This way, you will hopefully not make the same mistakes!
Also, not everything will be bad in these bad dropshipping store examples.
I will point you to the bad things, but if you take a look at their store yourself, I'm sure you will find more good things!
Y
Are you ready for the first example?
If so, let's go!
Important note: Keep in mind that these bad stores are offline now, but you can still learn a lot from my notes! These notes will give you a lot of insights as to why they decided to shut down.
1. Gadgetgripper
Let's start with the first dropshipping store example called Gadgetgripper.
Here are some things that you can look at:
- The green sale text. It doesn't fit with their design colors. They have the green color nowhere on their store, except on the sale text. Not even their logo.
Do this better: Most of the time, you'll choose a few colors for your store that fit the design of your logo and your niche (likely 1-3 colors), but don't choose a color and then not show it anywhere else!
- No legal pages at the bottom. They've got a legal page link on the top menu, but most people (including me) scroll to the bottom to find the policies of a website.
Do this better: If you want to include it on your header menu, then at least add them to your footer menu as well!
- Their newsletter signup form. Would you fill your email address out in there? I don't think so. It just doesn't look appealing, and it doesn't tell me what I will get when I signup for their newsletter.
Do this better: You can offer a discount when people signup for your newsletter. Plus, you can tell them what they can expect to receive from you when they signup. News? Deals? Free information?
- Their contact page. I've got two things about their contact page. Firstly, it's not easy to contact them now. They didn't even hyperlink their email address with mailto. Secondly, they used an Outlook email address, which looks so unprofessional.
Do this better: First off, having a contact form on your contact page makes it so much easier for your visitors/customers to contact you. And secondly, creating a custom domain email address looks way better than a Gmail or Outlook email address!
- Their Add to Cart button. Do you think their Add to Cart button stands out? I think their "Buy with G Pay" button gets your attention first, right?
Do it better: There are more colors for your buttons other than white. Research shows that some colors may even convert higher. You can click here to learn more about that. Just don't forget to match the colors with your store design!
2. The Mamma Shop
Let's move on to the second bad dropshipping store example called The Mamma Shop.
Here are some things that you can look at:
- The color of the chatbox. First off, I like the idea of having a personal chat box there (at least it looks personal with a picture like that), but the color doesn't match their store design at all. You don't see this color anywhere else in their store.
Do this better: As I said with the first example, if you want to have a color somewhere, make sure it fits your store design. To make this even more clear, the colors I use most on this blog are black and orange because it fits perfectly with my logo. I won't suddenly use purple text somewhere.
- Their product descriptions could definitely be improved. Would you be enticed to buy this product if you read a description like this?
Do this better: Product descriptions are important if you want to increase your conversion rate. (Source) I suggest you read this article written by me to learn how to write better product descriptions because I'm sure you'd like this kind of product description better:
- They miss the basic pages. They are missing some of the most important pages for an online store. For example, the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service.
- Do this better: To make sure you have all the basic pages on your dropshipping store, please read this article. It contains all the pages you will need to not look like a scammy store. I've also included some tips on how to create these pages.
3. Online Deals HQ
Next up on this dropshipping store example list is Online Deals HQ.
Here are some things that you can look at:
- Their color design. Alright, this might be me personally, but I really don't like the color design of their store. Do you?
Do this better: If you're not good at designing, either purchase a paid theme, or hire someone to do the design for you. If you still want to do it yourself (maybe you're on a budget), then a great tip is to show your design to other people and get their opinion!
- Don't put your whole store on sale. Does this sale still look real to you? Or does it look a bit fake?
Do this better: Make sure you don't overuse the sale tactic. Otherwise, it might not portray as a real sale anymore. Exceptions, of course, are like when you have a Black Friday storewide sale!
4. My Max Deals
Let's continue with number four: My Max Deals.
Here are some things that you can look at:
- Video unavailable. This one is easy to explain. If you want to add a video to your product page, please make sure it's available! This looks so unprofessional.
Do it better: As I said above, make sure your videos are available. Make sure that everyone can see your videos!
- Ads to other stores. I've seen these things before in Shopify apps, but I never really believed in them. Why would you lead your visitors away from your store? "Partner Products" is displayed so small in the top corner that your visitors could easily think that they will stay in your store.
Do it better: If you want some extra free traffic to your dropshipping store, then please take a look at this article written by me. I personally think that is so much better than displaying those ads on your product page, but let me know what you think!
- Weird pricing. I personally don't like it when someone gives their products random prices. I'm talking about the cents behind the comma. The first one is 37, and then it's 26, then 04. Why would you do that?
Do it better: This is everyone's own opinion. I suggest reading a bit about this topic. You can start by reading this article from us here. That article explains everything about how to price your dropshipping products. It will also go over how to round up or down on your prices.
- Their social media links at the bottom. Their social media buttons are bringing you to the main site (like Facebook) and not their page. Bit weird.
Do it better: If you want to display your social media icons there, then at least point them to your social media pages!
5. Pawstrip
Last up on this bad dropshipping store example list is a store called Pawstrip.
Here are some things that you can look at:
- No reviews on a product. If you don't have any reviews on a product yet, then please hide your review stars. No reviews are way worse than bad reviews. What do you think your visitors will think when they see no reviews? Do you think they will be happy to be the first one? Do you think they will trust you?
Do it better: To this do better, please disable your review stars if you don't have any reviews yet for that product. Or simply import some reviews from AliExpress (if you're dropshipping with AliExpress) if you want to do that. But please don't let your visitors feel like they are the first person in your store.
- Powered by Ali Reviews. If you use the free version of Ali Reviews, what do you think your store visitors will think about your store? You know that they will be redirected to the Ali Reviews app store page if they click on where it explains that you import reviews from AliExpress, right?
Do it better: If you want to import reviews from AliExpress, please use the paid version of Ali Reviews or find a cheaper/free alternative if it's outside your budget. You don't want to make your store visitors think badly of you.
- Sign up for updates. Well, I think this one speaks for itself! This pop-up doesn't fit their store design at all, and again, it's got a powered by logo...
Do this better: If you can't design things like this yourself, either hire someone to do it for you, or choose a Shopify app that has some awesome templates available for you that fit with your store design.

Hi Richard, I’m glad to be able to talk to you. I have spent a couple of days just reading about dropshipping and honestly I am competely confused. Too much info and contradictory. I still don’t know if Shopify is the way to get on with it, or it’s just their very clever promotional attitude, but everyone suggests to go with shopify. Not as directly as this. I realy want to start a shop, but I’m a bit scared. I’de appreciate it if you could give me some opinion on how to go about it. Thanks, cheers, Mary

Let me know if that leaves you with any questions, and good luck with everything!
