13 Ways to increase the conversion rate on a dropshipping store
Are you ready for some CRO tips to turn more visitors into buyers?
1. Sell in your product images
Did you know that most visitors to your store never scroll past the top of your page?
They see your product images and maybe a small part of the description before deciding whether to stay or leave.
This means your product images are one of the most important parts of your dropshipping store.
If your visitors don't scroll down the page, these images need to sell everything for you.
That’s why it’s important to use high-quality, informative images that tell your visitors everything they need to know.
Don’t assume they will scroll down to read the details—you have to grab their attention here.
So, make sure your product images clearly show the important benefits of the product.
If you look at successful ecommerce stores, you'll notice that many of them create their product images like this:

Visitors should understand what makes your product great just by looking at the pictures.
You can include text overlays that explain features, show comparison charts, or how-to-use visuals.
If you want to get great product images for your own dropshipping store as well, then I suggest reading my other article: How to Get Awesome Product Images When Dropshipping?
Disclaimer: If you’re selling items like fashion or home decor, where the visual appeal is everything, avoid cluttering your images with text or infographics. In these cases, the beauty and style of the product speak for themselves.
2. Add UGC to your product page
When people shop online, they want to know if a product is as good as it seems.
One of the best ways to convince potential customers is by showing user-generated content (UGC) on your product page.
UGC includes things like customer reviews, photos, or videos that customers have shared.
It’s powerful because it builds trust and makes your store look more reliable.
Think about it: if visitors see that other people have already bought and loved your product, they’re much more likely to make a purchase.
It’s like getting a recommendation from a friend—it feels more authentic than just reading the product description you wrote.
The successful online store FluffCo has added five UGC videos directly after their main product section, so it must be working well for them:

You can use a service like Billo to buy some user-generated content (UGC) videos from one of their thousands of vetted video creators working from their home studios all over the United States:

It's the most accessible and affordable way to get UGC videos for your Shopify dropshipping store!

3. Offer free shipping
Having free shipping on your dropshipping store is another great way to increase your conversion rate:

Think about it from the customer’s perspective.
They’ve found a product they love, they’re ready to buy, and then suddenly, the total price jumps up because of shipping.
Many people will leave the site right there and look for a store that offers free shipping instead.
Just take a look at these case studies:
- Red Door found that adding a free shipping threshold to NuFACE increased orders by 90%.
- JungleScout’s 2023 Consumer Trends Report says free shipping is among the top three reasons people shop online.
- A case study by the National Retail Federation revealed that 75% of online shoppers expect delivery to be free, even on orders under $50.
The only thing is to make sure that you're profitable while offering free shipping.
If you're interested in learning how to be profitable with your store while offering free shipping, then I suggest reading this article here!
4. Create converting product descriptions
Next up is creating awesome product descriptions for your products!
Let's start by looking at a typical dropshipping product description:

You will see these product descriptions in a lot of beginning dropshipping stores.
They didn't spend any time on it.
Do you really think your visitors will be enticed to buy your product after reading a product description like that?
I don't think so!
Here is an example of a great-looking product description:

That one is better than the first example, right?
If you want to learn more about creating awesome product descriptions for your dropshipping store, then I suggest reading this article!
I also explain in that article why self-made product descriptions convert way better than the product descriptions that you will get from your supplier(s).
Plus, I suggest you read this article here to learn more about copywriting. (Which is important to sell your products.)
5. Add store USPs right below the header
When visitors land on your site, they often quickly make the decision about whether they trust you and if they want to stick around.
One quick way to build trust is to add a banner bar with your Unique Selling Propositions (USPs) right below the header.
These USPs are the key benefits your store offers, like “Free Shipping,” “2-Year Warranty,” and “Easy Returns”:

A banner bar like this can spark trust right away, keep people on your site for longer, and reduce the bounce rate.
This tactic is especially helpful if you’re selling high-ticket items (products priced at $200 or more).
People are more cautious when spending a lot of money, and USPs like “2-Year Warranty” or “Satisfaction Guaranteed” can give them the confidence they need to make the purchase.
When a visitor is ready to click “Add to Cart” (ATC), they’re probably interested in your product—but they may still have last-minute doubts.
The best way to handle this is by addressing these key objections near the ATC button.
This way, you can give customers the information they need at exactly the right moment and push them over the line.
Here are the common concerns visitors have right before they click your ATC button:
- Shipping time. If the shipping time isn’t clear, people might hesitate to buy. You can fix this by adding a short line next to the ATC button that says something like “In stock, ready to ship” or “Delivered in 4-7 working days.”
- Shipping price. Another common concern is unexpected shipping fees. To handle this, you could say, “Free shipping from $50” or “Flat rate shipping: $4.99.”
- Guarantees. Customers often ask themselves, “What if the product doesn’t work out?” To resolve this worry, add a simple line like “30-Day Money-Back Guarantee” or “Hassle-Free Returns."
- Payment options. Some visitors might hesitate if they’re unsure about which payment methods you accept. Make it clear by listing icons of the available options.
Here's an example of how this looks in practice:

7. Make your dropshipping store look like a real store and not a scammy store
Now it's time to make your dropshipping store look like a real store and not like a one-day scam store!
I just knew I had to add this step because a lot of dropshipping stores lack the basic things.
Please put some effort into making your store look like a real business (which it is!).
For example, you should create all your policy/legal pages:

You can create these pages:
- Privacy Policy & Terms of Service
- Refund Policy (Click here to learn how to write an awesome Refund Policy)
- Shipping Policy (Click here for a Shipping Policy template)
The other pages that you should put some effort into are:
- Contact page
- About page
- FAQ page (Click here to learn more about how to create a FAQ page and why it is important to have one in your store)
- Collections page
- Homepage (Click here to get inspiration from the homepages of other successful dropshipping stores)
Next up is designing your Shopify dropshipping store so it won't look like all the other dropshipping stores out there.

8. Add more payment options
Imagine a customer adds an item to their cart, but when they get to the checkout, their preferred payment method isn’t available.
Chances are, they will leave your site and look for another store where they can pay how they want.
That's why having more payment options on your dropshipping store could definitely increase your conversion rate!
Remember that different target markets also have different preferred ways to pay.
For example, the US and UK usually prefer cards, while online payment services like PayPal are more popular in a country like Germany:

9. Decrease your page loading time
The next thing that you can do is decrease the time it takes before your product page loads.
The digital marketing agency Portent says that an ecommerce site that loads in one second has a conversion rate 2.5x higher than a site that loads in five seconds:

Here are some more interesting facts about the page loading time of ecommerce sites (source):
- 82% of consumers say slow page speeds impact their purchasing decisions.
- Sites that load in 1 second have a bounce rate of just 7%.
- 73% of users encounter slow sites when browsing mobile sites from their phones

10. Compliment visitors in their shopping cart
A little bit of psychology can go a long way in boosting your conversion rate, and one simple but powerful tactic is complimenting your visitors when they’re reviewing their shopping cart:

Think about it—people love feeling good about their choices.
By giving them a positive nudge at this moment, you can make them more likely to proceed to checkout and complete their purchase.
Some strategies include to:
- Compliment their savings. If your store is running a discount or they’ve applied a coupon code, highlight how much they’re saving with a positive message. Something like, “Great choice! You’ve saved $20 on this order!”
- Compliment their products. Let them know that they’ve picked something fantastic! An example is “Nice choice! This product is a customer favorite.”
- Highlight the benefits. If they’ve chosen items that come with free shipping or a special deal, you can add something like, “You’re getting free shipping with this order—great deal!”
11. Gamify your shopping cart
Unlike simply offering free shipping over a certain amount, gamifying the cart takes it to the next level by adding multiple reward tiers.
The more visitors spend, the better the rewards.
It’s a great way to boost both your average order value (AOV) and conversion rate (CVR).
You can create these rewards using a Shopify app like Rebuy:

12. Recover the abandoned carts
Next up is recovering your abandoned carts.
Abandoned carts are people who are in the checkout process but decide to leave your website for whatever reason before completing their purchase.
There could be a lot of reasons why people might abandon your checkout process. Just take a look at this infographic:

Did you know all these reasons?
If you want to learn more about recovering abandoned carts, I suggest reading this article, which offers seven amazing tips!
13. Use price anchoring
Price anchoring is a psychological tactic where a higher initial price is presented alongside a lower selling price.
For example, let’s say you’re selling trousers for $64.95. You add a price of $84.95, which the customer sees first. Then, this price is visually crossed out and replaced with the actual selling price of $64.95:

This not only draws attention but also makes the $64.95 price point appear more appealing due to the contrast with the higher 'anchored' price.
What is a good conversion rate for a Shopify dropshipping store?
It's good to know what a good conversion rate for a dropshipping store is so you have a goal to work toward.
In general, and as confirmed by Shopify, average ecommerce conversion rates are around 2.5% to 3%.
However, there are also other claims.
For example, Little Data says that the average conversion rate for Shopify stores is 1.4%.
They also say that having a 4.7% conversion rate would put you into the top 10%.
But don't worry if your conversion rate is below 4.7%.
Hopefully, with my tips above, you will be able to increase your conversion rate!
Also, keep in mind that not all niches and products have the same conversion rates:

How does Shopify calculate the conversion rate?
If you're wondering how Shopify calculates your conversion rate, then follow below.
Start by taking the total number of visitors and dividing it by the total number of purchases from that same time period.
Then, you can multiply it by 100% to get the percentage.
This calculation gives you the conversion rate of your dropshipping store.
Shopify does the same thing, but they also give you conversion rates for different steps in your sales funnel.
They show you the conversion rate of "Added to cart" and "Reached checkout."
