What are the most common technologies used by top Shopify stores?

Those were some interesting Shopify apps, right?

You can definitely imagine some of them can be invaluable for a high-traffic Shopify store.

But apps don't tell the whole story.

These Shopify stores also use a stack of technologies to allow them to operate.

Here is a table of the most common technologies used by the top 1,000 Shopify stores:

TechnologyUsed by percentage of the top 1,000 Shopify stores:

What themes do top Shopify stores use?

When it comes to setting up a Shopify store, the theme you choose plays an important role in defining your brand and customer experience.

So, let's look at what themes the top Shopify stores are choosing!

First, we found that 74.2% of the top 1,000 Shopify stores use a custom theme.

This makes complete sense because a custom theme gives you full control over your store's design, allowing you to create a one-of-a-kind shopping experience for your customers.

Percentage of top 1,000 Shopify stores using standard vs custom themes

But what about the stores that opt for standard Shopify themes?

Here's a table overview:

Shopify themeUsed by percentage of the top 1,000 Shopify stores:

Stiletto0.5%
Motion0.5%

Interesting distribution, right?

From the minority of top Shopify stores using a standard Shopify theme, there's not really one theme that stands out as superior.

But there's one last thing we must consider.

What about page builders?

Even though 4.6% of the top 1,000 Shopify stores have installed Dawn (which is Shopify's standard free theme), how many are using a page builder instead?

The answer is that of the stores using the Dawn theme, 12 stores (approximately 26.1%) have also installed a page builder app.

But here's where things get interesting.

31.3% of the top 1,000 Shopify stores have installed a page builder.

When you consider that only 5% of all dropshipping stores use a page builder, this is quite huge!

Here is a table overview of the most popular page builders used by the top 1,000 Shopify stores:

  1. Hello,Patryk,
why do so many people-companies sell ready Shopify websites?
    What is their business idea?
To sell their own or affiliate products by these websites? Not always.
To sell automatically produced websites like cakes, which are produced xyz pieces per hour? I don’t think this is the main reason.
    Then why?
    Can explain?
